The Cake Game - Manual

This is the manual for 'The Cake Game', a non-violent alternative to hangman, specifically designed for use in primary and secondary education.

  1. Starting the Game
  2. Start the game by pressing the 'START' button.

  3. The Premise of the Game
  4. A small introduction for your students will be played to give a non-violent context for the game of hangman.

  5. Playing the Game
  6. From this screen, the players can see what the number of letters the requested word (group) has.
    Players can select a letter to play from the bowl on the bottom of the screen.

  7. A Correct Input
  8. If the player plays a letter that is in the asked word (group), the letter gets displayed in the think bubble.
    Furthermore, the letter that was played gets greyed out and cannot be played again.

  9. An Incorrect Input
  10. If the player plays a letter that is not in the asked word (group), the player gets negative feedback.
    Also, the cake has one of its slices removed. These act like lives for the player. Furthermore, the letter that was played gets 'red-ed' out and cannot be played again.

  11. A Winning Game State
  12. When the player has guessed all letters without running out of cake, they win.

  13. A Losing Game State
  14. When the player has ran out of cake before guessing all the letters, they lose.
